MMA in the Cage banned in Western Australia
Department of Sport and Recreation commissioners met promoters and
gym owners on Friday January 11 to inform them of the decision, The West Australian reports.
Terry Waldron (Sports Minister) confirmed the use of cages in MMA contests in Western Australia would be prohibited once the regulations were gazetted in early March.
Victoria is the only other State with a ban on cage fighting, but the Victorian Government has come under added pressure to lift the ban.
One of the MMA promoters in Perth Grady Stewart said that the cage was safer than any alternative.
“The cage is equipment that’s there for the safety of the athletes. It stops people falling through to the concrete and breaking their neck.”
Perth MMA fighter Xavier Lucas, said he believed it was a decision made out of ignorance.
“I’d like the politicians to actually take the time to see what the sport is about.”

HARI IN JAIL ! .. MAY BE 12 YEARS !!
The Dutch court has decided to maintain the kick-boxer Badr Hari in custody until his trial, scheduled for January 2013. The Moroccan athlete accused of new crimes of violence including attempted murder, was released on bail Friday.
Justice had agreed to release him pending trial, provided he has no contact with victims and witnesses, with the exception of his wife Estelle Cruijff and forbade her to go to restaurants , nightclubs, hotels and other entertainment venues. Badr Hari would not comply with any of these conditions. The boxer had been in contact with at least two witnesses and would have gone into a restaurant Monday.
However, Hari says it is a misunderstanding. Witnesses in question were friends of the couple came to celebrate his release at the home of Estelle Cruijff. It is only afterwards that Badr would have realized his mistake. About his dinner with his girlfriend in a restaurant in Amsterdam, Badr Hari, visibly disappointed, said he did not know that was part of the premises by the judge.
Failed to comply with the two conditions of his release, Badr Hari, who faces up to 12 years in prison, will no longer qualify for bail before his trial.
